Cognitive & Psychometric Testing for Occupational Health

A healthy workforce is a productive workforce. Occupational health awareness is therefore excellent news for business.

Physical and mental health can be affected by many aspects of the working environment and may have a serious impact on employee performance. Cognition refers to human information processing in all its forms - acquiring information, weighing it, making decisions, the use of memory and perception, vigilance and attention, language and numerical capabilities.

Effective functioning in some/all of these areas is crucial for the majority of work related tasks.

Cognitive Assessment

Cognition may be affected by:

  • Direct impact of the physical aspects of the work environment-including noise, air pollution, lighting and ergonomics
  • Stress caused by certain aspects of the physical and social work environment.

It is beneficial for employers to identify and eliminate/modify any aspects of the working environment which may inhibit cognitive functioning directly, or through the creation of excessive stress. Central to achieving this goal is the reliable and valid assessment of cognitive function. This cognitive assessment may also provide objective information when examining health concerns raised by employees relating to job performance and sickness leave.

Psychometric Assessment

Selecting the right candidate for a job and developing existing employees can lead to substantial time and cost savings for your organisation. Our psychologists have over twenty year's experience of designing and providing assessments for use in both selection and development. We have completed extensive assessment work in both the public and private sectors.

Psychometric tests are useful during the selection process, providing objective information to help personnel decisions. A candidate's answers can be judged in relation to relevant norms. Candidates often appreciate the fact that the process is objective rather than subjective.

Individual and team development also benefits from psychometric testing. For example, some tests provide information to help individuals understand their own work styles and the work styles of others.
