Occupational Hygiene
Occupational hygiene is concerned with the anticipation,
recognition, evaluation and, most importantly, the control of hazards
and risks to health from workplace activities.
Regulations
Many regulations made under the Health and Safety
at Work Act 1974 are addressed by occupational hygiene, including:
- COSHH 1999 (Control of Substances Hazardous
to Health)
- Noise at Work Regulations 1989
- Control of Lead at Work Regulations 1998
- Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations
1987

Following assessment we are able to help you with the
design and implementation of practical solutions to workplace exposure
problems, including:
- Evaluation of working practices and adequacy of
existing exposure control measures
- Application of the 'hierarchy of control' to workplace
exposure situations
- Advice on simple, low cost noise reduction measures
- Evaluation of Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE) usage, and development of effective programmes for selection,
use and maintenance in accordance with the PPE at Work Regulations
1992.
